Gastric Balloon

There are gastric balloons and there are gastric balloons. Often those who try to lose weight via the implantation of a gastric balloon find that there are many problems associated with it. A gastric balloon is one that is made of soft silicone. It is inserted into your stomach in a non-surgical procedure that will be done entirely without needing general anesthesia.

Once in place, the balloon is filled with a saline solution that is completely sterile. Often the balloon will be left in place in the lower portion of your stomach for approximately six months. The balloon itself is actually coated on the inside with pure gold, and that is why it is called the Gold Heliosphere. The reasoning behind filling it with air instead of the sterile saline solution is that being made of air the balloon is no longer on the side of your stomach, nor on the bottom, bur rather on top where it will do the most good. The gold is used in order to prevent any air atoms to escape, which could conceivably create problems for the patient.

There are other very significant facts that surround the use of the Gold Heliosphere gastric balloon, and that is that being filled with air will greatly lengthen the patient’s tolerance rate.

Also, the balloon itself will have a much longer possible life span due to the fact that it will retain its original volume as the day it was inserted in your stomach. The chances of leakage are almost entirely removed in the case of this new way to perform gastric balloon method of weight loss.

One of the very interesting bits having to do with this kind of gastric balloon intervention is that this particular procedure will not require an overnight stay in the hospital, as only local anesthetic will be required. The whole procedure can be competed in about a 10-15 minute time span. Patients are also very pleased to hear that this method does not necessitate the need for having to pre-medicate for 5 days as there is with other kinds of gastric procedures.
