Stomach Staple

The term stomach staple is actually what people use to describe a gastric bypass operation. The term comes from the fact that the stomach is actually stapled to make it smaller and then a bypass of a portion of the stomach is done into the intestines. This effectively makes the person that had the bypass done feel full from eating much sooner than they otherwise would and so they tend to eat less and lose weight.

The stomach staple technique became popular because the Hollywood jet set crowd found it to be a quick and easy way to lose weight and get slim and trim for roles in movies without the need for rigorous diets and hard exercise routines. A fairly simple operation is done with minimal recovery time and very little risk and it is fairly easily reversible if there are complications. All it takes is money and you are slim and trim.

As the stomach staple technique became more popular the costs dropped and the techniques became more refined so the operation slipped into the more main-stream people in the United States and soon insurance companies were covering the procedure if it was medically necessary and soon everyone from teenagers to grandmothers were having the operation.

The stomach staple operation typically allows the person to shed about one third of the weight that they need to lose and can be effective for a year to as long as four. For the most part the main risks are localized infection at the point of incision and even that risk is minimal. The total cost however is fairly steep if it is not covered by insurance and can run to nearly sixty thousand dollars.

The stomach staple technique has a relatively low death date of under 2 percentage points which is pretty good for an invasive surgery when internal organs are moved and altered. Although somewhere around ten percent of the patients experience some lesser degree of complications.

The biggest thing a person must learn after having a stomach staple is that you must eat differently. You more than likely only are going to be able to eat eight or ten small meals a day. You usually can’t drink while you eat because the new smaller stomach pouch can’t hold a lot and you will be told to eat your protein first since that is the most important part of the meal.

The results can be quick and fairly phenomenal and if you are obese or have been overweight for a long time or this is medically ordered you will feel a lot better once you are a couple months into it and you see the results in the mirror.
